Over the weekend, while supporters were cheering on their athletes at the Germiston Stadium and the Delville Swimming Pool, car thieves were at work outside.
While two big sporting events were taking place between March 20 and 22, three cars were reported stolen to the Germiston SAPS, along with two vehicle break-ins.
WO André de Jager, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS, said that the police did regular patrols in the area over the weekend and the event organisers had security (car guards) in place, but thieves had still managed to make off with the three cars.
Police are currently investigating the thefts.
