Petrol set to increase by R2 a litre

Motorists warned to brace themselves for steep hike in the price of petrol.

The Department of Energy has warned consumers to brace themselves for a substantial  hike in the fuel price.

It is reported that the increase, reported to take place in April, could be as much as R2 a litre.

The increase would see the fuel price raising back to the R13 mark from the R10 a litre experienced at the end of January.

The Energy Departments spokesman Tseliso Maqubela said, “In the next month as things stand, we will see one of the biggest increases in fuel for quite a while and that will be once-off, but it is going to be quite significant.”

“We have to accept that that volatility in the price of oil will be with us for quite a while.”

Higher levies and announced in last month’s budget will also effect the fuel prices come April.

“Despite this increase consumers will still be paying less for a litre than they were a year ago,” Maqubela said.

How do you feel this hike in the fuel price will affect consumers?
