Nadia Nolan’s Noot vir Noot dreams realised

Nadia set to shine on Noot vir Noot in May.

Noot vir Noot, is an Afrikaans language musical quiz show broadcast on SABC 2, with host Johan Stemmet.

It is the longest continually running television game show in the country and Georgetown resident Nadia Nolan (27) is one of the many South Africans who has managed to test her musical knowledge on it.

“I was always a couch contestant whenever the programme came on – since I was a young girl,” Nolan explained.

“My dad, Danie Koster, used to be a DJ, playing at weddings and parties, and there the love for music was planted and grew in me.

“Friends and family would always ask me why I didn’t try to get on the programme, so I decided to give it a shot.”

The audition process is gruelling, with 4 000 hopefuls being split into smaller groups, where they play a mini-game, allowing the crew to screen test them and see how they react under pressure.

“When I finally got a call back I almost gave up, as each time I was called to a recording I found myself having to postpone.”

This happened for three seasons before she finally decided it was now or never.

“I sing part time,” Nolan said while explaining why she had to postpone her appearance on the show.

“First I was touring Holland, then I toured Cape Town, then I had a ton of shows – I was almost never free.

“When they contacted me the last time – they wanted me to re-audition and I sat there wondering if it was really worth it.

“To do an audition you have to sit through 4 000 regional contestants alone.”

However, to her delight, the show’s producers decided she didn’t have to audition again, and she grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Nolan loved every minute on set, even with the nerves.

“What I loved most was how the show pushes your music knowledge to the limit and, on top of that, the thrill of having to think on your feet,” she said.

“You have seconds to answer the questions.”

Have checked another item off her “To Do List”, Nolan is looking forward to spending more time with her family, as well as some new music ventures.

“I have started guitar lessons and will be recording my very own acoustic album,” she explained.

“I’m not worried about being famous, I’m doing it for me.”

The outcome of Nolan’s Noot vir Noot appearance won’t be made public until it is screened, so be sure to catch the show on SABC 2 on May 22.
