Elderly woman attacked in her Lambton home

Man follows pensioner into her garage, attacks and robs her.

A 72-year-old woman was attacked and tied up in her Baird Avenue, Lambton, home on Thursday.

Lambton Sector Four CPF liaison member Pine Pienaar told the GCN that the woman left her home at 9.28am.

CCTV footage available from the area showed a man jumping over the perimeter wall at 9.51am.

“The woman returned home at 9.57am, unaware of what was waiting,” said Pienaar.

“She pulled into her garage, and the suspect followed her in, attacking her and throwing her to the floor.

“He then took some coat hangers, which he used to tie her up.”

Pienaar added that the attacker allegedly demanded money from the victim and asked her where the safe was.

“He continued to rough her up and finally left the house through the kitchen door, with jewellery, her cellphone and some money she had in her purse,” he said.

“He left the premises by jumping the wall again at 10.22am and running away in the direction of Colin Wade Street.”

The woman’s screams alerted the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF patrollers, who were on the scene within minutes and who then notified the SAPS and Ekurhuleni Emergency Services.

“The woman was taken to the Union Hospital in Alberton by ambulance, where scans were done to determine the seriousness of the injuries she sustained during the ordeal.

“She was kept  for observation as she had suffered a concussion and bruising and was due to be discharged on Saturday,” said Pienaar.

No arrests have been made.
