High-speed chase leaves one suspect dead.

A high-speed chase between car thieves and the police, last Wednesday, resulted in the death of one of the suspects.

Germiston police members, with the help of a local security company, chased the suspects after they stole a vehicle from a parking area of a Lambton shopping centre.

The suspects then abandoned the stolen car and jumped into a getaway vehicle.

“During the chase, the driver of the getaway car lost control of the vehicle after colliding with another vehicle in Simon Bekker Road,” said WO André de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston police.

“One suspect died due to injuries caused by the accident, while the other two suspects ran from the scene.”

The officers managed to capture and arrest one of the fleeing suspects, and the search for the third continued with the help of the SAPS Airwing.

The man was traced to Rhamaphosa and arrested.

“The two suspects, aged 28 and 35, were detained at the Germiston Police Station and will face a charge of theft of a motor vehicle.

“Brig Samuel Thambo, the Germiston police station commander, congratulates the police members for their commitment and excellent police work in arresting the suspects immediately, and thanks the community for informing the police about the stolen car,” de Jager said.
