A look into the Crime Prevention Youth Desk

Get involved in preventing crime in your community.

This is the passionate plea Raymond Mlaza (20), chairman of the Primrose Crime Prevention Youth Desk (PCPYD), is making to the youth of Primrose.

Mlaza has been a part of the PCPYD for two years, since a friend invited him to be part of a performance at a local school.

The day’s events and the message given to the students sparked Mlaza’s interest and he became a member.

He was later elected as chairman by other members of the group and will continue in this position for two years.

The group focuses on awareness campaigns, school searches and motivational performances (with themes dictated and/or determined by the school the group visits), as well as activities that showcase the talents and interest of the members and young people in the community.

“We pride ourselves on being the eyes of the police, with special focus on the youth of our community,” said Mlaza.

He encourages people, between the ages of 15 and 35 years old, with a passion for helping the community to join in the group meetings, which are held every Monday evening, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, at the Primrose Methodist Church, in Primula Street.

“We work as a team to better our community; through the work we do we have become a family and look forward to welcoming new members into that family,” Mlaza concluded.
