Patrollers catch armed suspect

Patrollers in the Lambton Klip area arrest alleged criminal.

A resident of Grace Avenue, in Parkhill Gardens, was awakened at about 2.30am, recently, by a noise outside.

Upon investigating, Litsa Kapsari noticed four intruders on her property.

“As the coordinator of the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF patrollers, she immediately called the patrollers on duty for assistance on the radio.

“They arrived on the scene within minutes and the intruders made a dash to escape,” said Pine Pienaar, liaison member of the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF.

“One of the suspects opened fire in the direction of the patrollers, firing off between three and four rounds.

“He was, however, cornered, and he dropped the weapon to the ground.”

The patrollers apprehended him, but, unfortunately, his accomplices escaped.

The Germiston SAPS arrived on the scene and took the suspect into custody.

“The patrollers patrol the Lambton Klip area day and night, on a voluntary basis, endangering their own lives for the safety of the community.

“We can only imagine what would have happened if they had not been there to render the service to protect and serve, to Kapsari,” Pienaar said.

The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF urges residents and business owners to come on board with them, in order to fight crime in the area.

“Let’s take hands and help each other.

“The patrollers are in need of bullet proof vests to help protect them while they are out patrolling, donations of cash towards this or donations of vests would be appreciated,” Pienaar added.

“We thank the patrollers involved for their work, well done and keep doing what you do; somehow we must make a dent in the escalation of crime in our area.”

Pienaar added that the organisation urges residents to report all crime incidents big or small to the police and to the CPF to be captured into a database.

In doing so trends and hotspots can be determined which will lead the CPF to be able to proactively manage these issues.

Reporting the incidents with a full description, date, time and location can be done on the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF’s website, www.lkcpf.co.za or a call, SMS or any form of messaging can be done to 072 193 8496.

“Let’s be vigilant and proactive it could stop a crime to be in its tracks,” Pienaar concluded.
