Eskom battles to keep up with demand

Consumers asked to use electricity sparingly.

The risk of load shedding will remain high for today and the rest of the week.

This comes as Eskom battles to keep up with electricity demand, with several generators still offline due to maintenance and technical faults.

Stage one load shedding was implemented yesterday as the company couldn’t keep up with demand.

Spokesman for Eskom, Khulu Phasiwe said yesterday that the company are trying to bring several generators back online.

“Our technicians are working on other power stations to see if the generators can be brought online.”

“The high temperatures in South Africa are partly to blame for Monday’s load shedding, with electricity demand increasing drastically.

“The high temperatures mean more people were using fans and air conditioners.”

Consumers are urged to use electricity sparingly to help ease the pressure on the national power grid.
