Prepare for another week of load shedding – warns Eskom

High risk of load shedding this week.

Though the morning has started without load shedding, which plague the weekend, communities are warned to prepare for another week of load shedding with a number of Eskom’s generators still offline.

Eskom confirmed this morning that the power grid is extreme constrained at the moment with a number of generators offline, as well as one of its units at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station being out of service for the next three months, taking at least 900 megawatts off the power grid.

Khulu Phasiwe, spokesman for Eskom said the unit at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station will be taken offline from today (Monday).

“We are going to take down that unit for regular maintenance.

“It’s due for maintenance.”

Eskom implement stage two load shedding on both Saturday and Sunday in an attempt to stabilise the grid.

It has been reported however, that without the faulty generators back online the grid is still under pressure.

Phasiwe said, “A number of our generators which broke down early last week have not been returned back to service yet.

“So far as things stand, we are likely to continue to a high probability of load shedding for the new week.”
