Paramedics rush to the aid of the injured while bullets still fly

Civilians, security guards and suspects injured in Bedford Centre shooting.

EMER-G-MED paramedics were called to the scene of the shooting at Bedford Centre on Thursday.

“On arrival they found that five people had been shot, two of which were suspects, and four others injured,” said Danielle Dooley from EMER-G-MED.

“It is alleged that about six suspects attempted to rob a cash-in-transit van which was off-loading money.

“Gunshots rang out throughout the centre as shots were fired from one end to the other, as well as inside some of the shops.”

Dooley added that two patients were found and treated in the pharmacy, where they had been taken for help.

“One was a civilian who had been shot in the head, abdomen and arm.

“The other was a security guard who had been shot in the arm,” she said.

“Both were in a critical but stable condition.”

She went on to say that another security guard was shot in the foot and arm in the underground parking lot.

“Shots were still being fired as paramedics treated the patients.

“One of the suspects was shot in the leg and tried to run away, but he was found in the basement and another suspect had been shot in the chest and was found near the escalators,” Dooley said.

“An elderly woman was found hiding between clothes rails at a clothing store.

“She had a heart condition and was experiencing chest pain.

“She was treated on scene and transported to hospital by EMER-G-MED for further medical treatment.

“EMER-G-MED also transported the security guard from the underground parking lot to hospital.”

Dooley added that it is believed nine people in total (including the two suspects) were injured during the incident.

Some people injured themselves when they fell as they tried to get away.

All the injured people were transported to hospitals by various emergency services.
