Load shedding pushed to stage two

Load shedding to be implemented around the country.

It has been reported that load shedding has been pushed from stage one to stage two.

This means that up to 2000 MW of the national load is to be shed.

Eskom says that this is due to the two generators, which broke down yesterday, still being offline as well as extensive maintenance work being underway at various stations.

Eskom’s Andrew Etzinger said that load shedding is expected until about 10pm.

“At the moment we have a limited amount of capacity.

“Twenty-five percent of our generation fleet is currently not available due to technical problems and this has put us over the edge.

“So it is both the unit that tripped yesterday and a number of other ones we need to get back as soon as possible.”
