Man nabbed while trying to make off with lawnmower

No grass cutting for this alleged thief.

A man pushing a lawnmower was recently arrested by the Elsburg SAPS.

Officers were out patrolling in Elsburg, at about 12.20pm, when they saw the man walking down the street, pushing the machine.

They approached him and asked him who the owner of the lawnmower was.

“He lied and said the lawnmower belonged to him as he had bought it,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“When the officers asked him to show them his receipt he could not produce it.

“They then asked him to take them to the place where he had bought the lawnmower and he refused to do this.”

He was arrested and detained at the Elsburg Police Station.

The 27-year-old man will face a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
