Breaking News: Man dies after vicious dog attack

Local school's groundskeeper killed by three pitbulls.

The Germiston City News was able to confirm reports that a man has been killed in a vicious dog attack in the Primrose area this afternoon.

The man was declared dead on scene due to the severity of the wounds he had sustained during the attack.

It is reported that the incident took place at around 3pm this afternoon (Saturday), which was confirmed by Emer-g-med personnel on scene.

The man, believed to be a 45-year-old, was on the pavement outside Laerskool Oosterkruin in Wert Road, where he was employed as a groundskeeper, when three pitbulls escaped from a near-by home and attacked him.

“A passerby saw what was happening and tried to assist,” said Sgt Styles Maome communications officer for the Primrose police.

“However, the three dogs were too powerful and he also sustained a number of bites during his rescue attempt.”

It is then reported that a passing off-duty policeman became involved.

He fired a warning shot which lead to two of the pitbulls returning to their home while the third turned on the officer.

The officer shot and killed the dog.

The man’s body has been taken to the state mortuary, and the two remaining dogs were seized by the Germiston SPCA.

An inquest into the incident has since been opened by the Primrose Police.
