Terminally ill children get their dreams of taking to the sky realised

The Flying Lions Aerobatic Team makes dreams come true.

For 50 terminally ill children from the Tateni Home in Mamelodi, last Sunday was a day when their dreams of taking to the sky came true.

The children, thanks to the Reach for a Dream Foundation, were invited to attend a very special Christmas party hosted by the Flying Lions Aerobatic Team at Rand Airport.

It was a day filled with fun and excitement as the children got to go for flips in five Harvards (sponsored by Eqstra), a Cessna 140 and an Extra 300, all owned by Arnie Meneghelli.

The annual event sees the Flying Lions giving back to the children of South Africa and the pilots enjoyed taking the youngsters in the “great unknown sky”.

The pilots on the day were: Arnie Meneghelli, Ellis Levin, Gavin Brown, Sean Thackwray, Dion Raath, Ivan van der Schaar and Hayden Tunmer.

The ground crew on the day who helped make it so successful were: Sam Mendoza, Dylan van der Merwe, Taryn Foley, Brent Neilson, Keagan Foley, Aubyn Paul, Craig Bekker and Dimitri Stocker.

Once the flights were over, the fun didn’t stop there as the children were given food and beverages sponsored by the Harvard Café.

After a hearty lunch it was time for Father Christmas and his elf to come along with presents for all the youngsters.

The children were delighted when the pair arrived in Harvards to dish out their gifts.

The special day was sponsored by Eqstra and the gifts were sponsored by Shell, Hyundai, Creative Space Media and Eqstra.

All the children had a fantastic time and enjoyed their experience of a lifetime.
