Man explains he didn’t mean to kill

Man hands himself over to police after argument.

A 31-year-old man handed himself over to police on Sunday, November 16, following a murder in the Makause informal settlement.

The man went to the Primrose Police Station and openly admitted to stabbing the victim, but alleged that it had been in self-defence.

“He told officers that he was with the deceased, drinking alcohol, when they began to argue,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The fight quickly escalated and, he claimed, the deceased ran to his shack and brought back a sharp instrument and tried to stab him.”

The man said he was able to overpower the deceased and stabbed him with the object, resulting in his death.

The man was taken into police custody and will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
