Unforeseen technical problems put power grid under pressure

Eskom urges consumers to use electricity sparely to avoid load shedding.

The power system is severely constrained due to unforeseen technical problems at power stations, said Eskom in a press release yesterday.

This would mean that should the power utility experience further technical problems, load shedding may need to be implement.
Eskom calls on consumers to urgently switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances to prevent the need for rotational load shedding.
As workers leave office buildings in the evening Eskom asks that they switch off the lights, with the exception of security lighting and avoid leaving on air-conditioning overnight.

Eskom’s load shedding schedules are available for Eskom direct customers on our website https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/.
Customers can also contact the call centre on 0860 037 566 for additional information.
Load shedding schedules will only be utilised for the duration of the constraint.
Eskom will strive to provide regular updates on the status of the power system.
