Does leak pose a health risk?

When will sewage leak be repaired by the metro?

“Surely a sewage leak so close to the entrance of a food factory is a health hazard?”

This was among the concerns raised by an anonymous resident who reported a sewage leak to the Germiston City News recently.

The leak is reportedly found on the corner of Wadeville and Murray roads in Wadeville, at the entrance of the Pioneer Foods (Pty) Ltd T/A Bokomo Foods factory.

“The leak has been leaking for three weeks to date.

“How could it have been left so long?,” the resident added.

The GCN approached the metro to find out:

  •  Is the metro aware of the leak?
  • What can be done about this leak?
  • Does it not become a health hazard when it is this close to a food factory?

The metro’s senior officer from the department of communications and brand management, Lebogang Ramashala, release a single lined statement to the media.

It read: “The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality will attend to the complaint.”

Do you feel that this statement is enough given the location of this sewage leak?
