Stage collapses injuring 57 choir members

Metro to investigate stage collapse.

In light of an unfortunate incident which took place on Sunday at the Klopper Park Community Centre, the metro has launched a full scale investigation to determine the cause of the collapse of the stage during a choir performance.

The community hall was booked for a church service, during which praise and worship sessions were held involving members of the choir singing and dancing on the stage.

At approximately 1.30pm the stage gave in, with choir members on it.

The caretaker on duty immediately contacted emergency services for help and 57 choir members were assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital soon after.

The organisers of the church service have today confirmed that all of the injured choristers have been discharged from hospital.

“The Ekurhuleni Metro regrets the incident and wishes all those who were injured a speedy recovery,” said Ekurhuleni mayoral spokesman, Zweli Dlamini.
