Street lights on-day and night

Resident concerned about street lights.

The GCN received a call from concerned Elsburg resident Frans Dekker, about the lights in Yorke Street.

“For about three consecutive weeks, the street lights have been on day and night without being switched off,” he said.

“This is a big concern as we are meant to be saving electricity as much as possible.”

Dekker said he called the metro to try to eradicate the problem.

“I was told that the lights are on, day and night, because a cable was stolen and that they are working on it,” he explained.

Soon after the call from Dekker, GCN contacted the metro about the street lights.

“The complaint in question has been attended to and addressed,” said the senior media officer of the metro’s communications and brand management department, Lebogang Ramashala.

Dekker also told the GCN journalist that the street light outside his house stopped working for about three weeks.

“The metro came and fixed the light outside my house a day after I called the newspaper and I think two days later they returned to fix the street lights,” he said.

“Although it took three weeks for the lights to be fixed I am glad that they eventually did it.”
