The Primrose police recently arrested a 39-year-old man and charged him with the possession of suspected stolen property.
The arrest was made while officers were on a foot patrol in the Marathon informal settlement.
They noticed smoke and approached the scene cautiously, and discovered the man burning what appeared to be cables.
When the officers questioned the man he was unable to explain where he had obtained the cables.
He was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station, where he was formally charged.
He later appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for trial.
