Power cut by tree branches

Elsburg residents power cut by tree branches.

On Friday, the Germiston City News received a call from DJ van Wyk, an Elsburg resident.

Van Wyk said the power in his street, Rademeyer Street, had been out since Thursday.

Shortly after his call, the GCN began to receive more calls from disgruntled residents, from Du Plooy and Steven streets, which neighbour Rademeyer Street.

Residents believed that either a fuse had blown or that the trees, whose branches touched and tampered with the power cables, were causing the outage.

The GCN approached the metro for urgent comment on what was causing the problem and when it would be rectified.

Senior media officer in the metro’s department of communication and brand management Lebogang Ramashala said: “Power was restored to the area on the same day the complaint was lodged.

“The problem was, confirmed, caused by the trees.”
