Man tampers with local ATM

Man robbed of R1000 in ATM scam.

Following a report from a distraught Primrose resident, a 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with theft on Friday, October 3.

The complainant told police that on Thursday, October 2, he went to one of the local ATMs, in Rietfontein Road, Primrose to withdraw money.

He inserted the bank card and entered the pin number, as usual, but neither the money nor the card came out.

He tried to cancel the transaction but still his card was not returned.

A few minutes later he received a message on his cellphone that R1 000 had been withdrawn and his card was returned to him.

However, the machine produced no money.

“Our dedicated detectives followed the matter and the accused was traced and arrested the following day,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The man appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court.
