Are we walking in the footsteps of O R Tambo?

The metro is calling on all Grade Five to 11 pupils to get writing for the exciting 2014 Oliver Tambo Schools’ Essay Competition.

Pupils must write on the following topic: Are we walking in the footsteps of O R Tambo?

The first of its kind in Ekurhuleni, the essay contest aims to unleash the writing potential among students and to instil within them some life lessons by challenging them to reflect on the principled life that was led by struggle icon Oliver Reginald Tambo.

The pupils will be required to do research and visit the exhibitions currently on display at libraries across the metro in order to obtain information on Tambo’s life and legacy, focusing on what he stood for.

Entry forms will also be available at the libraries and can be submitted physically (at the library) or electronically at Ben.Segabutla@ekurhuleni.gov.za or Bafana.Mohulo@ekurhuleni.gov.za.

The closing date for submissions is October 23 and the prize-giving ceremony will take place on October 27, during the O R Tambo memorial lecture gala dinner.

There are three categories, namely, Junior for Grades Five to Seven, Intermediate for Grades Eight and Nine and Senior for Grades 10 and 11.

Winners in these categories stand a chance to win gadgets such as tablets, e-book readers, MP3 players and more.
