With reservoirs left empty residents of Germiston are searching desperately for answers.
On Monday at a press conference held at Rand Water’s Central Depot in Alberton, the head of the metro’s water and sanitation department Phil Mashoko, attempted to get a definitive answer from Rand Water to the question on everyone’s minds:
When will the water be restored?
The answer, there is no way to say when the water will be restored to the whole of Germiston.
The answer hangs on how quickly the affected reservoirs can be filled.
A task made increasingly difficult by the continued demand for water.
The Germiston City News questioned why the process of filling a reservoir would take so long, and were told that the problem came in with consumers continuing to use water.
“When the output is almost as high as the input it becomes increasingly difficult to fill the reservoirs,” said the managing director of Johannesburg Water Lungile Dlamini.
It is reported that water has been restored to a number of affected areas already.
“As the metro we are trying our best to manage the on-going crisis,” said Mashoko.
“Our plan forward is to balance the water distribution throughout the metro to try and avoid any one suburb being left without water.
“The metro’s mayor will also be visiting both Brakpan and Germiston to address residents.”

My question to the Metro is, why are you still watering your gardens at the Head Office in Germiston at 1am everyday during this crisis??????? We have been without water and suddenly at 1am we have water when the metro wants to water their garden but it gets switched off when they are done! NOT FAIR!! Switch it off until this crisis is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cut all the fucking water fill the reservoirs and then turn us on. Oh i forgot they will cut the power then. FIRE THE WHOLE DAM LOT OF INCOMPETENT LOT
Ek kan net nie verstaan dat oral waar jy ry loop die water, en nie bietjie water, baie. Ons het glad nie water van Saterdag, maar onder in ons straat lek waterpype dat die water strome loop, hoekom word dit nie ook afgesit. Gun wonder die “reservoirs ” kan nie voi word nie. Miskien moet daar na al die waterpype gekyk word wat lek!!!
They say they are spreading the water, so everyone gets some well we have no water from early morning to late at night and if it comes on it must be at 2 am or 3am until about 6am so we get no water at all, no hot water as the geyser never gets water . Lies is all they are spreading and yes if the reservoirs must get fill the switch water off to everyone and fill it. They probably did not pay their electricity bell and we’re cut off. All should be fired and I would like to know who I can claim from at ekhurleni for having to take clothes to launder at in another area to wash, petrol bill for having to do so, take away costs as nothing can get washed and gym fees that I pay daily in another area so I can shower? Water is also leaking out in street in Bedfordview just before bedford centre amazing that there is enough water for leakages.
What consequences are there those responsible for checking and monitoring the water in the resevoirs? This should have been avoided but due to incompompetant poor management we sitting without water. Blame it on the hot weather and an increase in usage from residence? Bulshit! This just shows how poor our infrastructure really is that our goverment cannot even manage to provide basic needs and services to its residants, no wonder people strike and toi toi – we all are Gatvol. Fire those responsible and get people who can do their jobs properly rather to sit and do nothing and waste tax payers money. This is bulshit and we are Gatvol of poepols not doing what they get paid for!
