Truck driver scrambles to save load of alcohol

Booze hit the tar in Primrose.

Residents’ morning commute was interrupted when a truck lost its load on the corner of Pretoria and Barbara roads, in Primrose.

On Thursday, at 08.15am, a white Mercedes Bens rigid/solid 10 ton truck transporting cans and bottles of liquor from Bedfordview to Eldorado Park, lost part of its cargo.

This happened as the truck took a right turn into Pretoria Road.

A truck lost its load of alcohol when it turned into Pretoria Road, on Thursday.

One lane of the intersection, which is controlled by traffic lights, was heavily affected by the incident.

“The 38-year old male truck driver and four male passengers, aged between 30 and 33, didn’t sustain any visible injuries,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, the EMPD’s media liaison officer.

“The driver alleged that he was travelling on Barbara Road, from the Elandsfontein direction, when he took a right turn in Pretoria Road, towards Germiston, and the load shifted and spilled onto the road.

“There was no report of another motor vehicle involved at the time of gathering the information.”

The dual carriageway was partially closed to traffic.

The EMPD were able to clear the road and re-open it to traffic in approximately two hours.
