Disgruntled Marlands resident Johan Esterhuyse is at his wits end with the mini-dump located close to his home.
He recently called the GCN to report a series of problems he is having with the mini-dump located close to his home in Wit Street.
His main concerns are:
- The rat infestation.
He has experienced the number of rats in his home increasing.
- The people who have started living in the mini-dump.
These people are burning rubbish close to his homes boundary wall.
He is also concerned about the sudden increase in the number of people in and out of the area, as he feels this could lead to an increase in the crime rate in the area.
The GCN sent a query to the metro to find out what could be done about the situation and Themba Gadebe, of the metro’s department of communications and brand management, responded with the following statement:
“The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has appointed a contractor to manage, control and clean the mini disposal sites.
“Activities taking place outside the premises are not the metro’s responsibly – although, on many occasions, these activities were reported to the EMPD and the police.
“Members of the community are advised to contact the policing entities to report any incidents.”
