Con-man manages to get R43 000 from victim

Business loses R43 000 through scam.

A 50-year-old man was arrested on Monday, August 25, in Homestead, Germiston, on charges of fraud.

The arrest was made when a business owner came into the Primrose Police Station to open a formal case against the accused.

The victim explained that the accused had come to see him and guaranteed the delivery of a machinery part

, the victim needed for his business.

All the accused asked was that the victim pay a deposit of R43 000 into his account before delivery.

The victim did as he was asked.

“The victim said he was still waiting for the part to be delivered,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

“In addition, whenever he tried to call the accused he found his cellphone was off.”

Using the description given by the victim, detectives were able to trace the suspect and he was arrested.

“We appeal to the community to be extra careful when entering into any form of business and/or contracts; be sure to get all the details,” added Maome.

The man is set to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court.
