Huge hole left after metro’s repair

Why was dangerous hole not filled in after metro had finished their repair?

Ria Lyons, of Lambton, is upset about the metro’s handling of a leaking water pipe.

“The metro came out to our property to repair a leaking pipe,” Lyons said.

“The repair team dug a huge hole during the work, but never filled it in.

The pipe was reported fixed weeks ago, but the hole remained open, causing a number of problems for Lyons and her family.

The GCN contacted the metro’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, for comment.

“A team has begun backfilling the hole,”he said.

“Once the backfilling process has been done the team will re-install the concrete pavement.”

After receiving comment from the metro, Lyons again contacted the GCN.

She claimed that a team had come out, but said they were not doing anything.

“I asked the man in charge what was happening, but he rudely ignored me and continued with what he was doing,” said Lyons.

The GCN sent the matter to the metro for comment, but, at the time of going to print, had received no reply.
