Youngsters help the SPCA

Animals get a much-needed donation.

The Germiston SPCA received a donation from Glen Oaks School, in Kensington, last Wednesday.

The senior school pupils, as part of their vocational training, had to come up with a concept and then run the project themselves.

They came up with the idea of a poster competition, entitled “Adopt don’t Shop”, and received 27 entries.

Having fun at the handover of the donation from Glen Oaks School, at the Germiston SPCA, on Wednesday, are, back, (from left): Caitlin Ogden (14), Laurence Kingston (manager of the society), Karen Viljoen (Glen Oaks class assistant) and Sonelle Buytendag (remedial therapist). Front: Duncan Aitchison (13), James Trollip (13), Dominique Camara (12) and Jenna Feinberg (13).

All entries were accompanied by a donation of pet food, which was handed over to the SPCA.

Prizes of sweet hampers donated by James Trollip were given to the first placed Grade One class, the second placed Junior class and to Seth Merzbacher, in third place.

Laurence Kingston, manager of the Germiston SPCA, thanked the pupils for their hard work and for the donations.
