The GCN reported (see GCN, July 18) how local girl Bianca Jordaan would be competing in the finals of “Apprentesses of Angelique Gerber”.

The GCN caught up with Jordaan to find out how the final week went.

She explained: “The week started out with a visit to the Jollige Jakkers School, in Krugersdorp, where we painted the school, which is really battling financially.”

On Wednesday and Thursday the girl were involved in a workshop with World Shakers History Makers and others.

“We had William Badenhorst from World Shakers History Makers come and talk to us about personal coaching,” Jordaan said.

“We learned a lot about who we are and where we want to be.

“I, personally, will be doing an eight-week course with him on personal growth and inspirational speaking.

Barry Schutte”, from Peri Peri Media, was another of the guest speakers.

“He taught us about the ups and downs of social media and marketing.”

Friday saw the girls face pre-judging.

“It was stressful, but, in the same breath, fun,”Jordaan said.

“On Friday we had a mingle evening and got to socialise with all the judges in a more relaxed environment.”

Contestants had to rehearse each day, to ensure the grand finale show ran smoothly.

“I did not place in the top five of the competition,”Jordaan said.

“I am, however, walking away from this experience with my head held high and many new friends.

“Some of the younger girls also told me that I inspired them with my story and my determination, which meant so much to me.”

Jordaan is now looking forward to the course with William Badenhorst.

“The competition helped me to see that beauty comes from within and shines through to the outside,” she said.

“I have also learned that a ‘no’ isn’t always a bad thing – it may open the door to something bigger and better.”
