The GCN recently reported on yet another dangerous open manhole in the suburbs of Germiston.
This manhole was found on the pavement in Northridge Avenue, in Sunnyridge.
“The manhole is approximately 3m deep and has fast running water at the bottom of it,” James Towell explained, adding that the cover has been missing for about three months.
“I have been trying to have it closed.
“I take it on myself to check that no person or animal has fallen into this clearly dangerous hole each day.”
The GCN reported the matter to the metro and the sewer manhole cover has since been replaced.
“It was replaced with a lockable ductile cover, to prevent similar incidents in the near further,” said Themba Gadebe, from the metro’s department of communications and brand management.
