Police arrest five armed men

Five nabbed allegedly on their way to commit a robbery.

Working on a tip-off, Germiston SAPS detectives arrested five men at 8am on June 30.

It is alleged that the men were on their way to Elandsfontein to commit a robbery at a company there.

With the help of EMPD officers, members of the Germiston SAPS waited for the suspects on Meyer Street, in the Germiston CBD.

The men were travelling in a mini-bus and were stopped by the EMPD as a routine stop.

The police officers then rushed in and arrested all five suspects without any shots being fired.

On the scene, the police recovered three firearms and ammunition.

“The suspects, aged between 20 and 35, were detained at the Germiston Police Station on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said WO André de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston SAPS.

“They are due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.”
