Wanted Katlehong man nabbed

Would-be car thief arrested by EMPD.

A wanted man from Katlehong, with a string of hijackings, attempted murder, business robberies, theft of motor vehicles and theft from vehicles cases open against him, was arrested on Thursday evening, in Edenvale.

The arrest took place after a member of the EMPD Equestrian Unit went to visit his relatives in Edenvale.

Upon his arrival he noticed his mother-in-law’s VW Polo door open, with a man in the driver’s seat fiddling under the dashboard.

Parked next to the Polo was a silver Ford Focus, with two occupants.

When the Metro Police officer confronted the man, he quickly removed his gloves and rushed towards the Ford Focus which, the EMPD suspects, was occupied by his accomplices.

Realising that a potentially dangerous situation was developing, the Metro Police officer was compelled to fire a warning shot.

The Ford Focus took off, with the suspect who was in the Polo still frantically trying to get into the getaway car.

He slipped and could not get into the vehicle.

The EMPD officer called for back-up and the man was chased along Voortrekker Road and apprehended at the corner of Horwood Road.

Another vehicle, a silver Ford Fiesta seen speeding off from the scene, is also suspected of being part of the group of car thieves.

The VW Polo which was already idling, had its fuse box ripped open and the ignition tampered with.

Upon checking the arrested man’s profile at the police station, it transpired that he is the wanted man from Katlehong.

A case of attempted theft of a motor vehicle was registered at the Edenvale Police Station.

The 49-year-old man is due to appear in the Edenvale Magistrates Court soon.
