Local resident, CJ Posthumus came into the GCN offices recently, to report a raised manhole/drain cover.
The manhole/drain is located at the corner of First Street and Fifth Avenue, Wannenburghoogte.
Posthumus explained that the raised cover had extensively damaged his car.
“I feel someone needs to take responsibility,” he added.
“Myself, as well as others, could have been seriously hurt.
“This manhole/drain is dangerous; what if the entire manhole cover was missing and the car landed into that hole? There would have been more damage.”
The GCN made contact with the metro to find out who Posthumus could contact to discuss the damage to his vehicle, and to find out if something could be done about the manhole/drain cover, to prevent damage to other vehicles?
Department of Communications and Brand Management’s Themba Gadebe released a statement, stating: “The manhole cover was replaced; it is now level with the tar.”
