Studio holds successful marathon

Dungeon Ink held a fun first tattoo marathon.

Dungeon Ink, in Sunnyridge, held a successful first tattoo marathon, last weekend.

People visited the studio to take part and walked away smiling, with beautiful tattoos.

Owner of the studio Nicole Barlow said she was pleased with the response to the first marathon, which involved doing tattoos from 9am to 9pm, on both the Saturday and the Sunday, in order for the artist to practice for their Guinness World Record attempt.

A percentage of the proceeds from the day will be handed over to an animal welfare organisation.

“We will be holding marathons every month, in an effort to get our tattoo artist ready for a Guinness World Record attempt,” Barlow said.

“We have decided to go for a record using only one tattoo artist, as no record of this nature has been set yet.”

The next tattoo marathon will take place on June 28 and 29, from 9am to 9pm.

Barlow told the GCN that the studio is also holding an exciting competition for young artists.

Students (over 16 years of age) are encouraged to design a tattoo drawn in either pencil or pen, which will be used on exclusive T-shirts for the Dungeon Clothing range.

There are great prizes up for grabs and the top four designs will be used, with the artists’ names, on limited-edition, exclusive shirts.

The competition is open until July 10, and young artists must drop off their work at the studio, in Howe Circle, Sunnyridge.

No email or posted entries will be accepted.

The design must look like a tattoo and the artist must sign his/her work clearly at the bottom of the page, not in the work.

Dungeon Ink is also asking for any donations from the public that can be used to decorate the studio.

“The idea is to make it look very 1950s,” Barlow said.

“We are requesting residents to bring us something that means something to them, for example, old photographs of Germiston, plates, etc.

“Furniture (not broken) in the 1950s style would also be appreciated.”
