Tattoo-a-thon takes on the world

Tattoo-a-thon a huge success.

The third annual Tattoo-a-thon made its debut across the globe, on Friday.

The event was aimed at raising R750 000 for the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC), and generating a record of 1 500 tattoos in one day, across the world.

The Tattoo-a-thon featured talented tattoo artists from top studios in South Africa, such as Wildfire Tattoos, Electric Eye, Metal Machine and Fallen Heroes.

All tattoos were a set size, based on an hour’s work, and cost only R700, of which R500 was donated to CHOC and R200 covered the costs of each tattoo shop.

Temporary tattoos were also sold at R10 each, allowing people who do not want permanent ink and children to be involved.

Germiston-based tattoo parlour Burnt Black represented the city in the event.

The artists of Burnt Black were in high spirits on Friday, and worked late into the night to accommodate people who were unable to get away from work during the day.

The shop was able to raise R8 500, of which R6 300 will be donated to CHOC.

This is an impressive total for the shop’s first year of involvement in the Tattoo-a-thon
