Transporter arrested for statutory rape

Man arrested for allegedly raping young girl.

Primrose Police arrested a suspect, aged 20, for statutory rape.

This happened after the parents of a 15-year-old minor opened a case against a school transport driver.

It is alleged that the minor went missing and the parents got a tip-off that their child might be at the school transporter’s home.

The family went to the house and met with the suspect, who told them that he didn’t know where their child was.

The suspect left the family there and disappeared.

When the family decided to peep through the window, they found that the young girl was locked inside the room.

The minor’s mother rushed to the police station to call the police, who then rushed to the house, where the girl opened the door.

The minor was rescued and taken for a medical examination and treatment, where the doctor confirmed that she had had intercourse with a male, without using protection.

The mother then opened a case of statutory rape, as her child is under the age of 16 and the law says that she cannot consent to sex.

The suspect was traced, arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station.

“We are appealing to our school children’s transporters to be careful when transporting children, this is the second incident concerning school transporters,” said the communications officer for the Primrose SAPS, Sgt Styles Maome.

“Last week, nine high school learners were caught drinking alcohol with their school transport driver at a park near the police station.

“Amongst those learners was a 13-year-old girl, who was so drunk that she could hardly talk; we just wonder what could have happened to her if she was not saved.

“We will have operations targeting the school transport, to eradicate all of these problems.”

The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court and the matter was postponed for plea and trial.
