Man hunt a success

Man arrested for young woman's rape.

A manhunt was launched after a young victim reported being raped.

The young woman came into the Primrose Police Station to open a case of rape against a 20-year-old man from the Marathon informal settlement.

The woman explained to officers that she had been walking through the settlement when the accused grabbed her and forced her into a near-by shack, where he threatened and raped her.

The man later locked his victim in his shack while he went out; he returned a while later and raped her again.

The victim was able to escape with the help of the accused’s friend.

The rescuer was alerted to the situation when the accused bragged of the rape to a group of friends.

Using the victim’s description, police launched a manhunt for the man and he was found and arrested on Friday, May 16.

He appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court where his case was postponed for trial.

The accused will remain in police custody until his next court appearance.
