Sisters take on the dancing world

Top young dancers from Germiston are going to the Freestyle World Dance Championships.

They are full of talent and will soon be showcasing this to the world.

Lambton dancers Tatijana (8) and Vesna Ignjatov (10) will again be representing South Africa at the Freestyle World Dance Championships, at the Winter Gardens, in Blackpool, in the United Kingdom.

The competition takes place on June 28 and 29, and the girls will be leaving for England on June 23.

Last year Tatijana danced in the u-8 premier championship, at the competition, and came second.

She qualified in South Africa with 100 points this year.

Over the past two years the youngster has been almost unbeatable, and at this year’s championships she will be competing in the u-10 premier section.

Vesna made the semi-finals last year, in Blackpool, and she qualified with 45 points to represent South Africa, this year.

She will be competing in the u-12 championship section at the competition.

David Jones, their trainer from Dance Zone, in Bryanston, will be heading to the UK with the family.

He is one of the top freestyle trainers in the country and believes the girls will do well.

Freestyle is an evolved version of disco dance, and has developed sub-categories, in which dancers compete in solos, in couples and in groups.

The discipline involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps, as well as many other diverse steps and acrobatic movements.

At the Freestyle World Championships Vesna will be competing in sections with between 80 and 120 dancers.

The premier championships, in which Tatijana is competing, has smaller sections, where there will be between 20 and 30 dancers in each section – only children who have proven their talent and winning ways can compete in this section.

The Ignjatov sisters are dedicated and training hard in order to fly the South African flag high.
