Two arrested for selling liquor without a licence

Primrose police crack down on liquor licences.

The Primrose police arrested a woman and a man for selling liquor without a licence, in two separate incidents during a crime prevention operation, in the Makause informal settlement.

“We are having a lot of problems with people selling liquor without a licence,” said communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.

“This problem is greatest in our informal settlements and we will, therefore, be conducting more operations of this nature.”

The first arrest was made when officers noticed a large group of people gathered at what appeared to be a local tavern.

They approached the building and asked to speak to the owner.

During questioning police discovered that the owner did not have a licence to sell liquor and he was arrested.

The second arrest was made when officers noticed a woman selling liquor from her home.

She was asked to produce a licence and, when she failed to do so, she was arrested.

Both the accused appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court and were released after paying an admission of guilt fines.
