Networking for retired people

Calling all retired people to join this club.

The members of the Germiston Probus Club held their May meeting, recently, at the Germiston/Delville Bowling Club.

The meeting kicked-off with the club’s normal activities, namely their financial status and congratulations to members celebrating wedding anniversaries and birthdays.

They were then given a talk by Alan Gailey, a new member of the club.

Gailey chatted to them about his great passion — découpage — and how he has made a number of interesting items, including a clock for the late Nelson Mandela.

“There is so much you can do with découpage and I am willing to teach any members who want to learn,” he said.

Alan Gailey was the speaker on the day. He spoke to the members about découpage and his other business interests.

He also told the audience that, now that he has retired, he is busier than ever, as he has developed a foot file to be used in beauty salons, which has taken off.

“I am now in talks with companies in the USA and we are going to start exporting the files,” he said.

For the club’s monthly draw, Gailey donated a beautiful “Big Five” découpage clock, which was won by Henri Sam.

The club meets every second Tuesday of the month, at the Germiston/Delville Bowling Club, at 11am.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 10 and any retired people are welcome to join them.

The club is also in need of speakers, so if you would like to share something with the members you are welcome to do so.
