While on a recent patrol, in Bezuldenhout Road, in Wadeville, Consts Netshidzivhe Vhutshilo and Thapelo Tsotetsi, of the Alberton SAPS, came across the white bakkie filled with what appeared to be scrap metal.
The officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver drove on.
Officers followed the bakkie, which came to a stop when it reached a scrap yard, in Lantana Street.
Officers immediately asked the driver for his licence and searched the vehicle.
They confirmed that the back of the bakkie was full of scrap metal and asked the driver to produce documentation for the material.
He was unable to do so and, when officers questioned him further, he was unable to explain from where he had obtained the metal.
The 29-year-old was arrested on charges of being in possession of suspected stolen goods valued at R5 056, and taken to the Elsburg Police Station.
