Police on the hunt for rapists

Two women attacked and raped.

The Elsburg SAPS are on the hunt for two rapists.

On Thursday, a woman opened a case of rape after she was attacked on a footpath in the veld just off Osborn Road, bordering Lambton Gardens and Elsburg.

“The victim alleges that she was walking in the veld on her way to work when she noticed a shadow approaching her from behind,” said Const Daphney Phooko, the communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“She made space for the person to pass her but, to her surprise, the man grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth with his hands and pulled her deeper into the veld.”

A struggle ensued.

The victim alleged that she was screaming so her attacker tried to strangle her and then injected her with something.

When she woke up, she found her trousers lying next to her on the ground and her underwear torn.

The man had fled, taking her laptop, wallet and bank cards.

At the time of the incident the man was wearing a cream/white hat, black shirt, leather jacket and necklace.

He is of medium build.

The man is still at large.

In another incident, on April 26, a woman opened a case of rape at the Elsburg Police Station after, she said, she had made her cellphone number public as she was looking for a place to rent.

She alleged that a man had contacted her via Whatsapp saying that he had rooms to rent in the Elsburg area.

She arranged to meet him in Voortrekker Street.

Here he “cuddled” her and then said they should go and look at the rooms to rent.

As they got to an open veld on Brug Street, the man said their destination had been reached.

“He threatened her with a knife and instructed her to take off her clothes, after which he forced himself on her.

“The first time he raped her he used a condom, but the second time he did not,” said Phooko.

He then fled with two cellphones valued at R2 000.

At the time of the attack the man was wearing a black tracksuit jacket and brown trousers.

He is also still at large.
