Young girls allegedly raped, assaulted and left for dead

EMPD hunts down alleged rapists.

Residents of Mavimbela Section in Katlehong were deeply shocked on Easter Monday when they found two young girls who appeared to have been raped, severely assaulted and left for dead in the bushes.

The girls were found near the intersection of Khotso and Mambo streets in Katlehong.

The residents were so incensed that they burnt the bushy open space and also blockaded the streets in protest against the horrendous crime.

EMPD Public Order Policing Unit members jumped into action.

They conducted investigations and gathered information about the case and by dawn on April 22, two of the alleged rapists were apprehended.

One was arrested in Katlehong and the other in Phutha-Ditjhaba.

Police are hot on the heels of the third suspect who is still at large and suspected to be hiding somewhere in Vereeniging.

One of the men arrested is possibly responsible for a spate of rapes that have been taking place in Katlehong in recent weeks.

The Katlehong police and EMPD officers have vowed to go sleepless until the suspect at large is behind bars.
