The metro is said to have welcomed the investigation by the public protector.

The metro is said to have welcomed the investigation, by the public protector, into alleged tender irregularities linked to the metro’s city manager Khaya Ngema.

“As a metro we take these matters serious and will fully co-operate with the public protector’s office during the investigation,” said Mandlakazi Mpahlwa-Sigcawu, the metro’s divisional head of media relations.

“Furthermore we will be accepting of the findings of this investigation.

“One of the metro’s key strategic priorities is good governance, which is clearly shows our intention to get rid of any sort of corruption in this metro.

“We already have a good working relationship with the SIU, because we are committed to fighting the scourge of fraud and corruption in our city.”

The Mpahlwa-Sigcawu went on to explain the metro’s supply chain management processes to the public.
