World Spay Day

Be a responsible pet owner.

World Spay Day, an annual event aimed at raising awareness among pet owners, is held on February 25.

This year, the Germiston SPCA calls on all responsible dog and cat owners residing in the Bedfordview and/or Germiston area to have their animals sterilised.

“We can accommodate a maximum of 15 dogs and cats to register for free sterilisation, and this offer will be strictly on a first come, first served basis,” said Laurence Kingston.

“People interested in this offer need to contact the Germiston SPCA on 011 825-5033 and quote “World Spay Day Special”.

“The SPCA staff member who receives your call will take down your details, register your pet and provide you with all the details you may need.”

Sterilisation ensures that pets live longer, healthier lives and makes them better pets.

It helps to reduce the risk of disease (for example, mammary tumours, uterine infections), decreases aggression and reduces the number of unwanted animals born, that end up in shelters or are given away to unsuitable homes where the problem of unsterilised animals simply continues.

Sterilisation makes good financial sense, too, as money does not need to be spent feeding more animals than one can afford.
