Couple shocked after armed robbery

Couple robbed in the wee hours at gunpoint.

They are still battling to get over the shock of their ordeal in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Astrid Rennison and her boyfriend, Kevin Viljoen, were held up at gunpoint at 4am, in the room that Astrid rents in Belhambra Street, Primrose.

Astrid told the GCN that, as the room is quite small, she likes to keep the door open, to allow air into it, especially as it has been so hot.

“I battled to sleep on Wednesday evening and I told Kevin I had a funny feeling,” she said.

“It felt as if we were being watched.

“Just before 4am we both woke up and, suddenly, three men, one armed with a gun, came into my room.

“They pointed the gun at us and I just clung to Kevin; we were so scared.”

The men demanded cellphones and they took Astrid’s.

She told them Kevin didn’t have one, because she knew he needed it for his business.

They then ransacked the room, taking all of Astrid’s shoes, most of her clothes, two watches, her underwear and Kevin’s wallet, containing R600 in cash, which was under the bed’s mattress.

The couple didn’t move throughout the entire ordeal, as they decided it would be safer just to remain still and calm.

Kevin did request that the thugs take his bank card and driver’s licence out of his wallet and leave them there, which they did.

After the men had finished choosing what they wanted they ran off.

The matter has been reported to the Primrose SAPS for investigation.
