A special day for the elderly

Kruinhof residents celebrate Christmas with a wonderful party.

Residents at Kruinhof Retirement Village in Elandsfontein were treated to a wonderful Christmas party recently.

This was the first time a party for all the residents has been held at the village for many years.

Organised by two of the village’s residents Drienie Prinsloo and Bessie van Aswegen, the party saw all 141 residents getting together for lots of fun, food and conversation.

The idea for the party came from Drienie’s late husband Johan.

He always wanted to host a Christmas event for all the residents but unfortunately didn’t manage to do this before his death two-and-half years ago.

Drienie then decided that she would hold the party in his memory.

So, together with Bessie, the two of them set out to make the event as memorable as possible.

Each resident was treated to a meal of boerewors rolls followed by ice-cream and chocolate sauce.

They were also given a special box each containing five pieces of cake and savories.

There was lots of fun and entertainment throughout the event and prizes were given away.

The Mr and Mrs Kruinhof titles went to Hendrik de Bruin and Martie Beetge, the karaoke winner was Johanna Matthuysen with Lettie Bruwer coming a close second, the winner of the bean bottle competition was Willem Ackerman and the best dancing couple was Antoon and Hester Lombaard.

Father Christmas (Willem Potgieter) and his six-month-old son Zander (mini-Father Christmas) gave all the residents gifts and party packs.

Drienie and Bessie give a special thanks to the sponsors of the event as without them the party would not have been possible.

The sponsors were: Pick n Pay Primrose, Lily’s Pharmacy in Homestead, the Satellite Bakery in Boksburg North and the Pie Factory.

An extra special thank you goes to the family, friends and children of residents, as well as the residents themselves for all giving financial support and contributions in order to make the party the huge success it was.
