What is going on in Primrose East?

Criminal activity on the rise in this suburb.

Primrose East residents have told the GCN that this year has seen a rise in criminal activity in their area.

They are desperately looking to police and security companies for answers.

Shoot-outs, housebreakings, theft, theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles, breaking and entering and houses being watched have all been reported.

“We have had a security system installed and the alarm goes off at least two or three times a week,” said Ronel Brazier, one of the concerned residents.

Another resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, believes that a large number of the crimes are connected to the mine dumps in the area.

“The criminals will break into a house and then disappear into the mine dumps; the police and security companies refuse to follow them there,” he said.

Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS, said: “Over the past month crimes like housebreakings, theft, theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles and breaking and entering have increased slightly in the Primrose area, but the residents’ should know that we are still active there.

“Residents can come to the station and report any cases they do not feel are getting enough attention.”
