EMPD arrest six during operation

EMPD crack down on speedsters.

A “fafi” gambler rushing to place bets was recently arrested by EMPD officers.

The arrest took place when he completely disregarded the 60km/h speed limit on Heidelberg Road, between Hatting and Dove roads, and was caught doing 106km/h.

The 36-year-old man, who was driving a Toyota LDV, was arrested.

Five other motorists were also arrested for excessive speeding on the same evening and on the same stretch of the road, in an operation that lasted two and a half hours.

A man in his late 30s, driving an Opel Astra sedan, was caught doing 137km/h and cited rushing home after a hard day at the office as his reason for speeding.

The second highest speed registered in this operation was by a 58-year-old man, who was driving a Renault Cleo.

He was caught travelling at 123km/h and claimed he was rushing home to take his wife to a doctor.

A number of other offenders arrested during the operation were caught travelling at speeds of between 106 and 109km/h.

All six drivers were charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Elsburg Police Station.

In another EMPD operation, officers recovered a Toyota LDV next to a scrap yard in Katlehong.

The vehicle had been stolen from Dalpark on the same day.

The owner, when contacted, said he was out of town and not aware of the theft of his vehicle.

No arrests were made.
